Husky's first oil sands project is located 30 kilometres northwest of Cold Lake, Alberta, and extracts bitumen resources from the Clearwater formation. Husky has a 100 percent working interest in the project, which achieved first production in November 2006.
Significant research and testing being applied at Tucker has resulted in increased production. Based on greater understanding of the Tucker reservoir, Husky is addressing production challenges by remediating older wells with innovative new stimulation techniques, drilling new wells and initiating new start-up procedures.
Husky's experience in developing Tucker provides a template for reducing capital costs and improving the economics for implementing a similar design for the Sunrise Energy Project.
Several applications to the Energy Resources Conservation Board have been approved or are proceeding for additional drilling and field development through to 2015.
