Husky is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where it operates. The Company focuses on agencies that address social issues, emergency and safety services, and provide youth programming and sponsor initiatives that encourage community development.
Since becoming an Alberta’s Promise partner in 2004, Husky has been a champion for investing in programs in the communities where it does business. As part of the opening ceremonies of Husky’s inaugural oil sands project, the Company announced a $125,000 donation to the Cold Lake Energy Centre. This contribution is for a children’s activity centre, an indoor playground and care facility where parents can bring their children to be supervised while they participate in events at the centre. To help more children access reliable information and counseling, Husky Energy donated $25,000 to the Kids Help Phone. Husky’s donation will help the organization expand the capacity of its website so that counselors can respond to more kids’ needs, tripling the number of times counselors respond to every on-line question.
On Canada’s East Coast, Husky Energy donated $100,000 to the Sir William Coaker Heritage Foundation in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Husky’s gift to the foundation will help them continue their mission to preserve the historic district of Port Union, North America's only union-built community, and the legacy of Sir William Coaker, an integral figure in the social and political makeup of Newfoundland and Labrador.
