Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) are recovered from natural gas at field facilities or at gas processing plants. NGLs, consisting of propane, butanes, pentanes, natural gasoline and condensate, are fractionated into various components for market sales.
Husky Energy is a financially strong and reliable long-term player in the Canadian natural gas liquids marketplace. Through a combination of proprietary assets and third party processing arrangements, Husky is able to recover NGL from natural gas streams throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Husky’s marketing and logistics experts maximize value for NGL by providing high quality reliable supply and individualized service to customers.
Husky markets approximately 23,000 barrels per day of proprietary NGL extracted from production in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Husky's NGL volumes are anticipated to grow with increases in natural gas production volumes and with returns from miscible flood projects (Rainbow Lake).
Husky has ownership in, and operates, three field fractionation facilities located at Ansell, Hussar, and Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Additionally Husky has processing arrangements at two other third party locations. The Company retains an ownership interest in the EnCana Empress extraction facility and has third party extraction agreements with others at Empress and Taylor. Field production originates across the basin from Rainbow Lake in the north to fields surrounding the Hussar gas plant in the south, including significant production from the Caroline field.
Husky’s trading partners benefit from a relationship with a reliable, financially strong, long-term trading partner. Consistency and continuity are keys to the success of Husky's trading and marketing activities. Current proprietary and third party volume managed is approximately 25,000 barrels per day. NGL mix is acquired and sold for processing and subsequent sale as specification products (ethane, propane, butane and condensate). Sales and purchases of all products are made on spot, monthly and term contract basis.
