Husky’s Mother Nature’s Fuel is a clean burning fuel made of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline. An alcohol-based product, Husky’s ethanol is made primarily from feed wheat. Carbohydrate (starch) in the grain is converted to ethanol in a fermentation and distillation process similar to making beer.
When blended with gasoline, ethanol boosts engine performance and reduces tailpipe emissions. Depending on the vehicle’s age, owner’s driving habits, driving conditions and other factors, ethanol-blended gasoline can reduce carbon monoxide emissions up to 25 percent. Compared to conventional gasoline, Mother Nature’s Fuel can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with production, transportation and use of fuel in vehicles. Currently, Husky markets E85 ethanol-blended gasoline to government fleets across Western Canada.
A pioneer in the development and marketing of ethanol-blended fuels, Husky has been manufacturing ethanol in Minnedosa, Manitoba since 1981. Husky plans to be Western Canada’s largest producer of ethanol. To meet the growing demand for clean-burning fuels, Husky has built plants at Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and Minnedosa, Manitoba. Each plant is capable of producing 130 million litres of ethanol per year.

When Husky’s new ethanol plant in Minnedosa commences production, both it and the Lloydminster ethanol plant will consume in excess of 700,000 tones of feed grain annually making Husky the largest purchaser of feed wheat in Western Canada. The ethanol plants will give local producers a valuable new market in which to sell their harvest.
Husky is looking for high yielding wheat varieties containing a high starch content. Desired varieties include Red Winter and Canadian Prairie Spring Red.
