Western Canada Production

Husky’s assets in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) provide a large portion of the revenue required to finance major projects and strategic initiatives elsewhere in the Company.  These activities include the increased drilling of infill and step-out wells, the installation of various types of enhanced recovery techniques, such as alkaline surfactant polymer floods, as well as increased production from coalbed methane deposits to augment natural gas production.

Foothills and Northwest Plains
In the Foothills region of Alberta, Husky has interests in various properties that provide feedstock to the Ram River gas plant operated by the Company as well as generating revenue from third-party processing. It also owns an extensive infrastructure of gathering pipelines and transmission systems.

In the plains region of Northwest Alberta, Husky has a 50 percent interest in and operates the Rainbow Lake processing plant.  Husky's production is derived from more than 70 oil and gas pools in an area covering approximately 1,300 square kilometres.

East Central Alberta
Husky is a major player in East Central Alberta operating 23 facilities with pipeline systems and a working interest averaging 90 percent in producing wells. With a strong land base, Husky plans to continue infill, step-out and exploratory drilling to optimize recovery and develop new pools to ensure optimization of our facilities.

Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan
Husky is one of the largest operators in the mature Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan region. The Company’s ongoing optimization and re-activation program, and application of improved recovery techniques helps to offset natural reservoir declines. In addition, strategic property acquisitions build on Husky’s existing assets in the region.  As the dominant operator of 31 oil batteries and six gas facilities, Husky sees upside development potential in both Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan.

Natural Gas from Coal
The Company also has the potential to increase gas volumes from its existing east-central and southern Alberta leases through a joint venture to extract natural gas from coal (NGC).
