Husky’s crude oil and natural gas exploration and production business in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is managed by three business units: Foothills and Northwest Plains, East Central Alberta, and Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Higher-impact gas exploration is the main focus in the western portion of the basin in the Foothills, Deep Basin and Northeastern B.C. Husky’s strategy is to develop resource plays such as tight gas reservoirs and coal bed methane (CBM), increase reservoir recovery and leverage existing infrastructure.
In the Columbia River Basin, located in southeast Washington and northeast Oregon, U.S.A., Husky has a 50 percent working interest in 3,300 square kilometres of land and a 50 percent interest in an exploration well. The basin is characterized by over-pressured, tight sand formations that lie below a layer of basalt. The close proximity to under-filled infrastructure and West Coast markets makes this area attractive.
