Sulphur

Husky Energy is a major producer of recovered sulphur. The Company has an annual supply capability of 500,000 metric tonnes of proprietary production, as well as access to approximately 400,000 metric tonnes per year of remelted sulphur and third party sulphur, making it one of the largest traders of elemental sulphur on world markets.
Domestic and international customers use liquid and formed sulphur primarily in the fertilizer and chemical industries

Sulphur is a byproduct from processing sour natural gas and crude oil. The term "sour," as applied to gas and oil, refers to hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Sulphur is produced when the sour portion of natural gas and crude oil, H2S, is recovered and converted into elemental sulphur. Husky's recovered sulphur is 99.9 percent pure. Sulphur can be stored in large blocks and remelted as required to access the market.

Located in western Alberta, Husky's Ram River Sour Gas Processing Facility is one of the largest in North America. Husky owns a 72 percent interest in the plant, which can process more than 4,500 metric tonnes of sulphur per day from production and remelt. Husky sulphur is also produced at the Caroline Sour Gas Processing Facility in Alberta, and at the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Upgrader in Saskatchewan.

Husky’s sulphur is marketed worldwide. Formed sulphur is loaded onto vessels in Vancouver for shipment to China, Latin America, Oceania, Africa and South East Asia. Husky sells liquid sulphur to markets in Canada and the United States.
