Ethanol

Husky's “Mother Nature’s Fuel” is a formulation of gasoline containing up to 10 percent ethanol by volume.  This is the most common form of ethanol-blended fuel and is covered under warranty by every automobile manufacturer. Ethanol is a renewable, clean-burning fuel that contains oxygen. Adding oxygen to fuel results in more complete fuel combustion, thus reducing harmful tailpipe emissions. Another benefit of ethanol is that natural gas-line antifreeze in winter.

Husky’s ethanol is made primarily from feed grade wheat. Carbohydrate (starch) in the grain is converted to ethanol in a fermentation and distillation process.

A pioneer in the development and marketing of ethanol-blended fuels, Husky has been manufacturing ethanol since 1981. Husky is Western Canada’s largest producer of ethanol with plants at Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, and Minnedosa, Manitoba, with the capacity to produce a total 260 million litres of ethanol per year.

Husky’s ethanol plants have the capacity to consume in excess of 700,000 tonnes of feed grain annually making the Company the largest purchaser of feed wheat in Western Canada. Husky is looking for high-yielding wheat varieties containing a high-starch content. Desired varieties include Red Winter and Canadian Prairie Spring Red.
