Prince George Light Oil Refinery

Husky’s light oil refinery in Prince George, British Columbia, is located to meet the refined products marketing needs of Husky and third party retail outlets in the central and northern regions of the province. The plant was built in 1967 and Husky has operated it since 1976. Supplied with feedstock delivered by pipeline from northeastern British Columbia, the refinery’s current capacity is 12,000 barrels of light crude oil per day.

The refinery produces all grades of unleaded gasoline, seasonal diesel fuels, mixed propane and butane, and heavy fuel oil. Safety, the environment and the efficient production of high quality fuels are top priorities for the refinery’s 85 full-time employees.

The refinery also markets road asphalt, shipped by rail from Husky’s Lloydminster, Alberta, asphalt refinery.

Ultra Low Sulphur Fuels

Expanded and upgraded under Husky’s ownership, the refinery produces ultra low sulphur gasoline and diesel fuel to meet the Government of Canada’s new fuel specifications. The refinery’s Clean Fuels Project was completed in phases. The low sulphur gasoline component was finished in August, 2005, and the low sulphur diesel component was finished in May 2006.

Husky employs two types of desulphurization technologies at the refinery. For clean gasoline (low sulphur gasoline), the refinery uses Prime G+ hydrodesulphurization technology. For clean diesel (ultra low sulphur diesel), Husky increased the capacity of its existing unifiner and reformer units, and increased the hydrogen supply through installation of a new steam methane reformer (SMR).

As a result of the refinery expansion and upgrade, throughput capacity increased by 20 percent to 12,000 barrels per day. In 2008, the refinery processed 3.70 million barrels of light crude.

Air Monitoring

Husky has made considerable progress in improving air emissions, and is making improvements to air monitoring and tracking systems. Husky initiated an Environmental Performance Reporting System (EPRS) to collect and consolidate operational and environmental data on GHG and other air emissions. The Company is addressing GHG emissions by improving the energy efficiency of existing operations and adopting new technologies which will lead to substantial emissions reductions and energy efficiency. Recent improvements include a process analyzer for the fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) stack.

Health and Safety

The Company implemented the Husky Operational Integrity Management System (HOIMS) in 2008. The integrity management system enhances the Company’s traditional approach to health, safety and environmental performance by incorporating asset integrity and operational initiatives.
