Calgary, AB - Today, Calgary's new Science Centre, TELUS Spark, is pleased to announce a generous $100,000 donation from Husky Energy to sponsor a Lab within the new Learning Centre.

"It's important that we provide our children with innovative and challenging ways to learn," said Husky CEO Asim Ghosh. "This new Lab provides an opportunity for youth of all ages to explore the world of science and technology with real-life tools."

"The spaces within the Learning Centre are critical to providing hands-on learning, experimentation and collaboration opportunities for our visitors and school groups," says Jennifer Martin CEO & President of TELUS Spark, the new Science Centre. "We are grateful to sponsors, like Husky Energy, who are committed to supporting our future through the provision of real, interdisciplinary lab experiences that relate to both curriculums, and issues in our current global landscape."

Located in the Learning Centre, the Lab sponsored by Husky is outfitted with the tools needed to facilitate real lab experiences and experimentation ranging from discovering buoyancy properties, to designing and testing water filters and pipelines to exploring soil processes. The Lab is a key element in a number of the new School Programs, ultimately acting as a catalyst for the young to discover a passion for the sciences and inquiry.

Located just North of junction of Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive, the new 153,000 square-foot facility is home to four exhibit galleries (Energy & Innovation, Earth & Sky, Open Studio and Being Human), in addition to an expanded and enhanced Creative Kids Museum, a Feature Gallery, the Learning Centre, a 164-seat Presentation Theatre, a 10,000 square-foot Atrium and Calgary’s only HD Digital Dome Theatre (coming in Spring 2012).
