Calgary, Alberta – Husky Energy wishes to express its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of R. Donald Fullerton, who passed away suddenly on May 29, 2011.
Don has been a Director of Husky since 2003 and most recently served as Chair of the audit committee. A resident of Toronto, he was 79.
“Husky has lost a good friend whose guidance, leadership and ready humour will be sorely missed,” said CEO Asim Ghosh. “On behalf of the Company, its employees and the Board of Directors, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Judy and family. We will always be grateful for his years of service and for the many contributions he has made in furthering our success.”
Don has been a guiding force with a number of prominent Canadian and international companies. He joined the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in 1953 after graduating from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He rose through the institution’s ranks, eventually becoming CEO and Chairman of CIBC in 1985. He served in that role until 1992 and remained on its Board until 2004.
In addition to serving as a director of Husky, Don served on a number of public and private companies, including Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holdings, George Weston Ltd., Westcoast Energy, Coca Cola, Partner Communications and 3 Italia S.p.A.
Don was also a director of the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation and throughout his lifetime contributed to many charitable causes.
