Edmonton - Husky Energy CEO Asim Ghosh presented the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation with a donation of $250,000 today in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Department Expansion project.
“We are pleased to be able to make a difference to children and families when they need help,” said Mr. Ghosh. “Our support for this project reflects the importance we place on promoting health and wellness within our communities.”
The Emergency Department Expansion is currently underway and the support from leading companies such as Husky Energy is helping to ensure it will have the specialized equipment and technology available and will also be completely child friendly. “The current emergency department was built to handle 11,000 patient visits and it’s currently seeing more than double that number,” said Richard Hiron, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation Board Chair. “It was clearly time to make this a priority and to also ensure that what we create has room to accommodate a growing population. Companies like Husky Energy are clearly interested in the well‐being of our kids and it has made a financial contribution to the project to help ensure we can continue providing the best care for those children who need emergency support.”
This Alberta Health Services project is being completed in two phases to ensure continued operation during construction and to optimize available resources. The first phase of the emergency department expansion is expected to open in November 2011, with phase 2 opening in the spring of 2012.
