Husky Earns Award for Brownfield Redevelopment Workshops

March 24, 2011

Husky has received a Brownie Award from the Canadian Urban Institute for its involvement in a series of workshops on brownfield redevelopment.

During the workshops, Husky discussed redevelopment of one of the most common brownfields, former service station sites, from an owner’s perspective. The discussion addressed various technical, economic and regulatory challenges and opportunities, as well as managing public expectations, leadership and environmental sustainability.

“Responsible environmental management is fundamental to our operations and we were pleased to share our experience and learnings,” says Senior Environmental Specialist, Will Ratliffe. “We were also honoured to receive the Brownie award, acknowledging our ability to communicate the complexity of the brownfield site management and remediation process.”

Workshop participants included municipal employees, elected officials, provincial representatives, developers, consultants, property owners and industry representatives from Nanaimo, Prince Rupert, Prince George and Mission, British Columbia.
